PRIVATE MOTOR PRICING — Hands-on BAU pricing inside a leading general insurer
SHORT, SHARP CONTRACT — Step in from 9 September, contribute with almost no ramp-up
PYTHON + GLM — Portfolio reviews, rate changes and Earnix/Emblem/Radar a plus
A leading general insurer is seeking an experienced Actuarial Pricing Specialist to join its Private Motor Pricing team on a short term contract.
This is a hands-on pricing position suited to an experienced Pricing Analyst, Senior Pricing Analyst or Pricing Specialist who can quickly step into a BAU pricing environment and contribute with minimal ramp-up.
The role will focus on Private Motor pricing reviews, portfolio monitoring, GLM-based pricing analysis and the delivery of pricing changes, using data and pricing insights to understand the impact of changes across individual policies and the broader portfolio.
You will work closely with the Pricing team and partner with Portfolio, Product, Underwriting and Distribution stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Support BAU pricing activity across the Private Motor portfolio.
Conduct pricing and rate reviews using portfolio performance and emerging experience.
Support the development, maintenance and review of GLM-based pricing models.
Analyse portfolio monitoring outcomes and identify where pricing action may be required.
Support the delivery and implementation of pricing and rate changes.
Perform pricing impact analysis at both portfolio and individual policy or customer level.
Analyse key pricing and commercial metrics including premium movements, profitability, retention, conversion, rate adequacy, and customer and portfolio impacts.
Use Python for pricing-related data manipulation, analysis and investigation.
Investigate pricing outcomes, trends, anomalies and changes in portfolio performance.
Provide clear pricing insights and recommendations to the broader pricing team.
Partner with Portfolio, Product, Underwriting and Distribution teams on pricing outcomes and portfolio performance.
Support pricing modelling and broader portfolio analysis as required.
Essential Experience
Minimum 2 to 3 years of hands-on General Insurance pricing experience.
Strong experience within short tail insurance pricing.
Experience within Personal Lines pricing, ideally Private Motor or Household/Home.
Strong hands-on experience with Python in a pricing environment.
Demonstrated experience using Python for data analysis and data manipulation.
Experience conducting pricing reviews and BAU pricing analysis.
Understanding of GLMs and actuarial pricing models.
Experience analysing portfolio performance and supporting pricing or rate changes.
Strong actuarial and General Insurance pricing knowledge.
Ability to quickly understand an existing pricing portfolio and contribute with minimal supervision.
Highly Regarded
Direct Private Motor pricing experience.
Household or Home insurance pricing experience.
Experience developing or applying machine learning models within pricing.
Experience with Earnix, Emblem or Radar.
Experience with Databricks.
Experience analysing pricing outcomes at individual policy or customer level.
Experience with pricing optimisation, retention, conversion and profitability analysis.
Actuarial qualification or progress towards actuarial qualification.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a hands-on insurance pricing professional who is comfortable working with large datasets, pricing models and portfolio performance information.
You will have strong Python capability and understand how to apply it specifically within pricing, rather than having only general programming exposure.
You will ideally come from a Private Motor or Personal Lines pricing environment and be comfortable supporting GLM modelling, pricing reviews, portfolio monitoring and the implementation of price changes.
Given the short duration of the assignment, the successful candidate will need to be able to pick up BAU pricing work quickly and make an immediate contribution to the team.
